About me ....

My name is Hailey Lau. I am a 28 year old girl with a fascination for reptiles.

I've wrangled and kept little creatures since I was a wee one. I actually remember the first turtle I caught. I watched him all afternoon. When it was time for dinner, my dad helped me make a bed for him in the garden. When we came back outside, the turtle was gone. I was in tears! My dad took me around to all the neighbors, we asked them to call if he turned up. I remember it vividly, I was 3 years old.

When I was 7, I would empty out my dresser drawers and fill them with grass. I'd catch garter snakes and hide them in my room. I always let them go the same day. Darn that "Barnaby" though. He escaped in the house. My mom always hid her fear of herps well .. until the following month when "Barnaby" showed up in her laundry room. I still laugh about it. From that day on ... I had to give her a head count when I brought the snakes in the house (and of course, she confirmed the count when they left the house).

My first store bought reptile was an anole when I was 12. His name was "Ted". I kept him for almost 3 years before he passed away of old age. From there came the open floodgates ... leopard gecko's, fat tail geckos, ameiva's, kingsnakes, red tailed boas, iguana's ... the list goes on. I still own my first fat tailed gecko's. They were all of 4 months old when I aquired them ... this spring, they will be 11 years old.

I started breeding leopard gecko's in 2004. I established my business, IDGecko in 2005. It's a full time hobby, and I hope to expand even more in upcoming years. Expect to see different species availabillity lists in the future. I currently collect and keep; leopard gecko's, crested gecko's, AFT's, red eyed tree frogs, ornate horned frogs, solomon island leaf frogs, terrapins, ball pythons and corn snakes.

My home is in Vancouver, Washington (just minutes from Portland, Oregon). When I'm not taking care of the herps, I'm at my real job where I work as a veterinary assistant. I work for the best vet in town, he's been a godsend to me in my obsession with reptiles. When I'm not at the clinic, and not in the herp room, you can usually find me lounging around with my boyfriend, Mike, and our 5 bulldogs. They keep us busy. What can I say ... I love animals.

For those of you just getting involved in herps - "Welcome" and enjoy the road ahead! I love to talk reptiles ... if you ever have any questions, I'm only an email away!
