My name is Hailey, and I am a 31 year old gal with a fascination for reptiles.
I've wrangled and kept little creatures since I was a wee one. I actually remember the first turtle I caught. I watched him all afternoon. When it was time for dinner, my dad helped me make a bed for him in the garden. When we came back outside, the turtle was gone. I was in tears! My dad took me around to all the neighbors, we asked them to call if he turned up. I remember it vividly, I was 3 years old.
When I was 7, I would empty out my dresser drawers and fill them with grass. I'd catch garter snakes and hide them in my room. I always let them go the same day. Darn that "Barnaby" though. He escaped in the house. My mom always hid her fear of herps well .. until the following month when "Barnaby" showed up in her laundry room. I still laugh about it. From that day on ... I had to give her a head count when I brought the snakes in the house (and of course, she confirmed the count when they left the house).
My first store bought reptile was an anole when I was 12. His name was "Ted". I kept him for almost 3 years before he passed away of old age. From there came the open floodgates. Over the years, I have collected many species of herps ... from leopard gecko's, crested gecko's, AFT's, Bearded Dragons, Uromastyx, ameiva's, red eyed tree frogs, ornate horned frogs, solomon island leaf frogs, terrapins, ball pythons, red tailed boas, kingsnakes, western hognose snakes and corn snakes.
Though my collection has continuously changed over the years, I still own my original pair of african fat tailed geckos. The girls will be 13 years old as of April 2010!!
I started breeding leopard gecko's in 2004. I established my business, IDGecko in 2005. It's a full time hobby, and I hope to expand even more in upcoming years. I currently breed and sell Bearded Dragons, Crested Gecko's and Leopard Gecko's.
I currently reside in Vancouver, Washington (just minutes from Portland, Oregon). When I'm not taking care of the herps, I'm at my real job where I work as a veterinary assistant. I work for the best vet in town, he's been a godsend to me in my obsession with reptiles.
My other hobbies include traveling, listening to music (esp love live shows), and fitness training. Due to all my travels in 2010, I am not actively breeding at this time. I will resume breeding in 2011, my avail species will include Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos and Crested Geckos. Updates will be posted as pairs are introduced and I start collecting eggs.
For those of you just getting involved in herps - "Welcome" and enjoy the road ahead!
Thanks for visiting my website,
Hailey :)
